£10 a month for simply having a First Direct bank account? It seems ridiculous that anyone should pay to put money into a bank but according to their latest press release anyone earning under £1500 a month will have to. That's great First Direct, charge the people who can't afford it. Nice PR stunt there. Alienate and wind-up your bread and butter customers. Well done.
I have to admit this doesn't effect me or the service that First Direct bank provide me with, but I can't help feeling angry for the people who are effected by it. What a bunch of ......you know the rest.
I've phoned First Direct and asked them, why as someone who has a current account and an unused savings account, was I able to dodge the charge but others who may well earn more than I don't? The answer I got can best be described as a 'grunt' and waffle about how they're providing an excellent service. Really, First Direct, banks should be giving people better deals and helping those with regular incomes not punishing them for not earning enough. I don't know what upsets me more, the inherent snobbery or the callous money grabbing?
