A Christmas tale

Another year, another Christmas to moan about.'Tis the season to be jolly, eh? Not likely. The other half has already dropped the ultimate Christmas lie on me.

"We're saving for our next holiday, so let's not get each other anything this year ok?"

I know what that means. I'm not getting present but I'm a dead man if I don't get her something. Never again will I get caught out by that little trick. Never again will I have to dart out of the house at 9.30pm on Christmas eve to the local 24hr garage. Never again will my partner get plastic flowers, a collection of soft back Catherine Cookson's and a bag of charcoal for Christmas.

Scouse fury

This is silly. Why do grown adults allow themselves to get involved in such petty arguments?

The fire of England's north-south rivalry has been fuelled when regeneration chiefs in Liverpool complained of a pro-London bias by internet giant Google.

Liverpool Vision, which is co-ordinating massive redevelopment of the city, complained that the huge changes are not visible on Google Earth.

The popular site, which uses satellite images to create aerial views of much of the planet, does show the very latest London landmarks, such as the new Wembley and Arsenal FC stadia.

Unwelcome return

Now I know that the charts aren't supposed to mean anything, but this weekends run-down depressed me. Why? Well I have to be honest most of the crap that inhabits the charts depresses me but this weekend it was made just that little bit worse by the return of Take That. The fact that they achieved their first number one in years just added the cherry on top of the turd.

I thought I'd seen the back of them. How wrong was I?

Alexander Litvinenko RIP

Unfortunately, tonight, Alexander Litvinenko has lost his fight against being poisoned. Alexander was allegedly poisoned by the Russian authorities because of his investigation into other victims of alleged state violence. This really isn't anything new. There are hundreds of modern cases, and in the case of Stalin's era, millions of examples of this.

My sympathies go out to Alexanders family and friends and I hope other brave men like him get to the truth of what has happened. Not only in this case but the case of Anna Politkovskaya, the other brave journalist to allegedly die at the hands of the FSB (formerly the KGB).

My kind of club

It seems that there is a growing movement that it seems I'm destined to join. A group so massive in it's potential that it could rival neo-conservatism, fascism and 70's disco. It's a group dedicated to rejecting consumerism and fashion. A group centred around the abandoning of fads and technology. All hail the 'The Society Of People Who Have Never"

The Wonderful World of Religion: Part One

I've heard of 'cutting off your nose to spite your face' but this is ridiculous.

A Thai Buddhist monk cut off his penis with a machete because he had an erection during meditation and declined to have it reattached, saying he had renounced all earthly cares, a doctor and a newspaper said on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old monk, whose name was withheld for privacy reasons, allowed medical staff at Maharaj hospital, 780 km (480 miles) south of Bangkok to dress his wound, but refused reattachment, hospital chief Prawing Euanontouch said.

"We cleaned up the wound, gave him some stitches, but he declined to have it reattached because he said had abandoned everything," Prawing told Reuters by telephone.

Where's the riot I was promised?

I'm suing the Daily Mail. Come to think of it, I'm suing the Daily Mail, the Conservative Party and every other doomsayer that predicted the end of civilisation with regards 24 hour drinking. It seems in just one year all of the ills that they have predicted have failed to materialise. What with the lack of social breakdown and the orgy of violence and all the other armageddon starting nastiness.

What's that banging sound?

I'll tell you what it is, it's John Lennon rolling in his grave that's what! It seems that George Martin and son have released a 'new' Beatles record. Wow! That's some achievement considering two of the members are dead, one's going through a messy divorce and the other is Ringo Starr. Alas, this isn't a 'new' album at all. To be fair, I find it difficult to describe it as an album really. You see the album consists of famous and popular Beatles tracks remixed, re-jigged and to use the 'hip' phrase 'mashed up'. So to describe it as a Beatles album, project or product is a bit rich. An abomination possibly, album? Definitely not.

Robert Altman (1925 - 2006)

It's with great sadness that I write this entry. One of my favourite movie directors has passed away. Actually just to describe him as a favourite is an understatement. Robert Altman was one of my all time heroes. With films like MASH, Nashville and Gosford Park he was a giant in American and world film making.

'Ellowski, ellowski, ellowski'

I'm guessing this won't be a popular news story in certain newspapers and certain political groups. The idea of 'foreigners' policing us is hard for some to swallow but I have no such reservations. I applaud the new incentive (which hopefully will move forward) to recruite Polish migrants into the police force. I for one have nothing against hardworking Poles coming to the UK and working hard. I loathe the likes of the BNP and other scaremongering racists that gnash their teeth at the idea of immigrants. The fact is Britain is far better with immigration than it would be without.

The Not-So-Beautiful Game

It's fair to say that last weekends game between Spurs and Blackburn was a tad heated. Two players sent off, one manager sent to the stands, multiple yellow cards, elbows to the head, kicks to the nether-regions etc.

The incidents marked the game out as one of the nastiest games in quite sometime. Interestingly, before the game there was a poll reported in the press that Spurs manager Martin Jol was the fans pick as the boss they'd 'least like to meet in a dark alley'. After seeing him rant at the referee when Hossam Ghaly was sent off, I can understand why people are so wary of the Dutch bruiser.

Blasphemy!

Okay, so I have a confession to make. This will probably make me very unpopular at the moment, but I can take no more. I've tried to fit in, I've tried to conform and I've even lied to hide my true feeling. This can not go on. I must say what I feel. I must purge myself of the guilt of not liking something everyone else does. What is it you ask?

Dealing with sadness and loss

According to Bosch Car Service (?), the Welsh are the most emotional when selling an old car. Apparently the Welsh like a good wail when parting with their four-wheeled friend. I personally have never had any such feelings for cars. I don't own one and I think until I desperately need one I probably won't. I've never understood the fascination. Which brings me to one of my most loathed type of person......

What a load of bankers.....

£10 a month for simply having a First Direct bank account? It seems ridiculous that anyone should pay to put money into a bank but according to their latest press release anyone earning under £1500 a month will have to. That's great First Direct, charge the people who can't afford it. Nice PR stunt there. Alienate and wind-up your bread and butter customers. Well done.

Kick Off!

Ok, I'll admit this from the off. I'm not new to blogging. I've been involved in a few blogs (generally political and football ones) and I've either got bored of them or the people I was writing with. I know that sounds awful but it's true. So here you have my blog. A blog just for me. A blog for my neurosis, rants and introverted navel gazing.
